Sparta Prague 2:2 Trabzonspor: Mikel gets first yellow card

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel ended his first match with a booking for Turkish side, Trabzonspor as they secured a 2-2 draw with Sparta Prague in Thursday’s Europa League first leg playoffs at the Generali Arena.

The Nigerian who was on for 46 minutes before being replaced with Alexander Soerloth was yellow-carded in the 32nd minute.

Unfortunately for Mikel, his contributions for the period he was on the pitch failed to produce any goal for
Trabzonspor who trailed by two goals till the end of the first half.

Costa Nhamoinesu and Guelor Kanga scored both goals for the home side in the 16th and 68th minutes.

However, Trabzonspor bounced back with six minutes to end the match through Ghana international, Caleb Ekuban with Jose Sosa providing the assist.

And in the 89th minute, Soerloth justified his substitution by getting the equaliser to dash the hopes of the
Prague fans.

While Mikel failed to end the game, compatriot, Anthony Nwakaeme who spotted jersey number 9 and operated from the wings was on for the entire duration.
