Super Eagles coach Peseiro for Kwara Utd vs Sunshine clash

 

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro  eager to change the narative that national team coaches struggle to have a look in at local players on one hand and the local league on the other.

The former Saudi Arabia and Venezuela coach who has earned two victories in two matches in the Nations cup qualifiers hit in Ilorin on Saturday ahead of NPFL tie between Kwara United and Sunshine Stars of Akure on Sunday.

The Portuguese tactician we gather and one of his assistants were received on arrival in Ilorin by Kwara United chairman, Kumbi Titiloye.

Many believe visiting match venues and watching the local league players in action is the best way to discover quality players who can fit into the national team which currently is made up of all foreign based players.

Though Nigeria failed to pick a ticket for the world Cup in Qatar the team however has the Nations cup to contend after crashing out in the round of 16 at the last edition in Cameroon.

Eight local-based players were named in Peseiro’s maiden squad for the international friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador.

Sani Faisal, Victor Mbaoma, Ishaq Kayode and Chiamaka Madu all featured in the two friendlies.

Only Faisal, who plays for Katsina United and Akwa United’s goalkeeper, Adewale Adeyinka were retained for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau.

Kwara United and Sunshine Stars are in the hunt for third position in the NPFL, which guarantees a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. The gap between hosts Afonja Warriors and Sunshine on the log is too close to call.

While the homers are sixth on the log with 49 points the visitors are seventh on the log with 48 points. Kwara United versus Sunshine are however not the only fixtures for Sunday.

Others lined up include MFM vs Enyimba,Remo Stars vs Lobi Stars, Dakkaba vs Akwa United,Plateau Utd vs Gombe United and Wikki Tourist of Bauchi vs Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
