Super Eagles forward Onuachu opens up on early season struggles

Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu has opened up of his early season struggle at KRC Genk.

The 27-year-old endured a poor start to the 2021-2022 campaign, and he has attributed to the disappointment from the transfer window.

Onuachu scored 35 goals for Genk last summer and was linked with a transfer to Premier League side West Ham United and Ligue One giants Olympique Lyon, but no deal was agreed at the end.

“I can’t do anything anymore. I was convinced that I could make a nice transfer, but the football world is not always fair. And many clubs are struggling financially due to the pandemic. I had to turn the switch quickly,” he told HLN.

Onuachu put the disappointment behind him and has netted eleven goals for the Van Den Brom’s side, including last weekend hat-trick against Seraing.

“I wasn’t completely myself, that’s right. I was pissed, but that had nothing to do with Racing Genk. I wasn’t looking for excuses not to have to play.

“Onuachu is giving less because he is thinking about a transfer?, that is something they will never be able to say about me.”

The Nigerian international has been given a contract extension and he’s tied with Genk until 2024.
