Super Eagles invitation not a do-or-affair for Nwankwo

Rave of the moment, Simy Nwankwo, is not bothered about returning to the Super Eagles, but he will continue to be a huge fan of the team.

Simy is one of the hottest strikers in Europe this season with 19 goals for his club Crotone in the Italian Serie A, but he last played for the Super Eagles in 2018.

Many thought his latest form will open an opportunity for a return into the squad, but coach, Gernot Rohr, has now played the possibility, insisting the 28-year-old has little or no chance of coming back at the moment.

In his reaction to the statement of the coach, Simy Nwankwo said he remains unbothered about the position of the coach but maintained that he remains a huge fan of the team.

“I won’t say I am bothered about the Super Eagles. As a Nigerian, I am a fan of the national team, we are all born to be fans of the Super Eagles,” he told BBC Sport Africa.

“I share the same dream and ambition of every young footballer to one day represent the country. But it’s not in my hands, it’s not something I can control.

“I focus on the only thing that I can control, which is my day-to-day performances, improvement, becoming better every day, working hard, and doing the things I have to do for my club.

“That’s the only thing that I am able to control. What happens in the Super Eagles is out of my control.

“If it happens again, it happens, and if not… life goes on. I am not worried.”

Simy Nwankwo last featured for the three-time African Champions in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final Group game against Argentina.
