Super Eagles ready for Rwanda clash – Troost-Ekong
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, on Friday.
The three-time African champions have been in training under new head coach Eric Chelle, and Troost-Ekong insists the players are fully focused on securing a positive result.
“Everything has been good, first training session, all the boys in camp, we’re fired up. Of course, we know we have a big job ahead. It comes with pressure, but I keep saying to everyone that this pressure is a privilege, so all the boys are feeling that,” Troost-Ekong told Super Eagles media.
The defender also highlighted the team’s positive response to Chelle’s coaching methods, stating that the Malian tactician has been clear about his expectations.
“We are very happy to work with the new coach. He has given us a lot of new instructions, and for us, it’s just about making sure we understand what he wants from us on Friday. We are working towards that now,” he added.

Troost-Ekong, who plays for Al Kholood in Saudi Arabia, emphasised the honour of representing Nigeria and the team’s determination to execute their game plan effectively.
“It’s always special when I’m here. Whenever I have this badge on my chest, I’m very, very happy. With the new coach, we have tried our best to welcome him as quickly as possible. He’s been very clear on what he wants from us, what he’s expecting, and now it’s just for us to understand it and do the job.”
As Rwanda currently tops Group C with seven points from four games, the Super Eagles captain stressed the importance of respecting their opponents.
“Of course, we have to respect them for their position on the table, and I think we understand what they want to do. They have a new coach as well, so it’s going to be a very loaded match. But we’re just trying to break it down and focus on the things we can control.”
With the Super Eagles still searching for their first win in the qualifiers, all eyes will be on Kigali as they look to turn their campaign around.
