Super Eagles shot-stopper shines as Kaizer Chiefs claims Derby win

 

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi put up a good show on Saturday in South Africa’s Professional Soccer league (PSL) as table toppers Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 3-2 at the FNB stadium.

Although the Nigerian international conceded two goals in the encounter he nonetheless made impressive saves that ensured that the homers maintained their 3-2 victory. It was however not all rosy for the former Chippa United safehand as he was shown the yellow in the 8th minutes of added time by referee Thando Ndzandzeka.

Akpeyi was however not the only one that saw yellow at the occasion as no few than seven yellows were dished out by the whistle man. Akpeyi has remained in super form in time. Saturday’s victory is coming barely a week after he saved two penalties to push the Chiefs into the semifinals of the Telcom Cup.

An own goal by Pirates Nyauza signaled the beginning of an encounter that produced five goals at the end of the day.

Kaizer Chiefs duo of Cardoso and Castro were on target for the homers while the Pirates had Pule and Lorch to thank for the two consolation goals, perhaps but for the own goal in the first minute of the match the encounter would have ended in a draw.
