Super Eagles stars reject Lagos return, name preferred venue

Super Eagles squad members stars have named their preferred venue for next month’s AFCON qualifier against Lesotho instead of the long-awaited return to Lagos.

Nigeria is expected to host Lesotho in a final AFCON qualifier on March 30 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, 10 years after they battled Sierra Leone at same venue.

But Franco-German manager Gernot Rohr has revealed his players would have preferred the game was played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where they have played most of the home games for the past four years.

“The second game (vs Lesotho), we will do it in Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos,” Rohr was quoted as saying to  ESPN.

“But my players they like Uyo because of the facilities at the stadium.”

Interestingly, Nigeria beat Sierra Leone 2-1 in 2011 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium last time, but the venue now boasts of a natural grass pitch instead of the previous artificial turf.
