Super Sunday: Panthers, Stallions dream afcon last 8 slot

Panthers of Gabon and Stallions of Burkina Faso have been x-raying their group stage outing and survival while plotting the best way out ahead of their knock out clash tomorrow at the  Limbe Omnisport Stadium.

Burkina Faso secured their place in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations last Monday when they held on for a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia.

With four points from three games, the West African nation finished as runners-up in Group A, level on points with Cape Verde who also secured entry into the knockout stages as one of the two best third-placed sides and three points off group winners Cameroon.

Panthers celebrate after scoring against debutants Comoros

Burkina Faso head into Sunday’s game unbeaten in all but one of their last nine games across all competitions, picking up four wins and four draws, while scoring 15 goals and keeping four clean sheets in that time.

A form they would be hoping to maintain all things being equal. Things may not however be equal as Gabon will equally be coming out smoking and hoping to consolidate on their impressive run in the group stage

Les Panthers opened their campaign with an impressive 1-0 victory over debutants Comoros on January 10 before holding Ghana to a 1-1 draw in their second match and followed up at another draw against Morocco to advance. Both teams have shown tenacity in their battle to forge ahead in the championship but it will be survival of the fittest on Super Sunday.  Who survives to battle for a slot in the last 8?
