Table tennis fans can own Piece of Sporting History With Singapore Smash NFTs

Table tennis fans can now own a piece of sporting history with a new set of collectible Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), launched in commemoration of the first-ever WTT Grand Smash. These tokens are released by World Table Tennis as part of continuing efforts to further grow the technological footprint of the sport.

Two NFTs are currently available for auction at www.worldtabletennis.com. The “Singapore Smash 2022 – First Ball!” signifies the first day of Main Draw competition at the inaugural Singapore Smash, which will be held from 7 to 20 March at the OCBC Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub. The “Singapore Smash 2022 – A Grand New Legacy!” commemorates the significance of Singapore becoming the host of the first-ever WTT Grand Smash.

A third NFT, “Singapore Smash 2022 – Official Ball”, is currently for sale. It reflects the new era in professional table tennis introduced by the Singapore Smash 2022. With over 250 matches due to be played and 6,480 table tennis balls being used throughout the tournament, sports collectors can own a piece of history with the Official Ball NFT.

The auctions of the first two NFTs will close during the first few days of competition. Additional NFTs will be released over the course of the tournament.

The launch of officially licensed table tennis NFTs is another milestone in the journey to make the sport one of the most recognised and followed in the world. WTT first introduced table tennis NFTs as a new kind of memorabilia for fans at the Houston 2021 World Table Tennis Championships, the first-ever hosted in the Americas. WTT is planning to launch its own marketplace in 2022 where fans and collectors will be able to buy, sell and trade table tennis NFTs.

As the commercial and events arm of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), WTT aims to transform how the sport is played and absorbed throughout the world while providing the fans of the sport with cutting-edge technology and new experiences which will build further the interest and awareness of table tennis. Ever since its launch, WTT has been leading the table tennis digital transformation and opening up new revenue streams for table tennis.

WTT Grand Smashes form the foundation of the WTT Series and the Singapore Smash is the first of the four new pillars of professional table tennis. The world’s top table tennis players, including two-time Olympic men’s singles champion Ma Long and women’s world No. 1 Sun Yingsha, will compete for a prize pool of US$2,000,000 – the biggest prize purse at an officially-sanctioned event. The full player entry list is available at www.worldtabletennis.com.

Tickets are now on sale starting from $10. All spectators to Singapore Smash 2022 are to abide by the necessary Safe Management Measures. More details are available at www.sistic.com.sg.
