Team Kwara wins Presidents’ national U-17 tourney

Host state Kwara last Saturday won the maiden Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria national President U~17 football championship.

In an entertaining final decided at the Mahnbowl of Ilorin Township Stadium, the team defeated Ondo by 2~0 to emerge winner of the tournament.

Earlier in the third-place match, Cross River State beat Ekiti 1~0 to emerge as the third-best team in the week~long championship.

In a goodwill message to the teams, National President of YSFON Dr. Nasiru Yussuf Gawuna congratulated all the winners and losers for playing to the rules of the game and the organisers for putting up a hitch-free tournament which he said is worthy of emulation.

Gawuma who also doubles as Deputy Governor of Kano State however appealed for corporate support for the tournament which he assured will be an annual one. According to him, with the support of corporate Nigeria to its numerous programmes, the Federation will not only surpass its achievement in talent hunt and providing promising players to the various national teams but will take grassroots sports to another level.

Ministry of sports and youths development, Kwara Director of Sports.Alhaji Sheu Olusola Abubakar, immediate past administrator of Kwara State Sports Academy. Mallam Kehinde Jimoh, Technical Adviser of ABS Football Club Tony Encho, and Bayo Issah of Sports Pro international amongst others.
