Tevez: I’d choose to watch golf instead of EL Clasico

Carlos Tevez

Boca Junior handed Carlos Tevez an opportunity to return to Buenos Aries after a lucrative spell in China, yet the forward has fallen out of love with the game.

For someone who has enjoyed a quite wonderful career spanning over a decade, Tevez is no longer interested in watching big match-ups like the Clasico.

“If Barcelona and Real Madrid are playing each other, but there is a golf tournament on another channel, I’ll choose to watch the golf instead,” he explained in an interview with Clarin.

“I don’t watch any football on television.

“I don’t like football, I’ve never been a fan of football, I simply like to play and to have the ball at my feet.”

Tevez endured a difficult childhood in Argentina, with the sport acting as a way of breaking out of such poverty.

He touched upon this as well in his interview.

“It was hard, but we were happy,” he said.

“We were always playing football in our neighbourhood.

“It was brave, we lived in a situation that is the same in every small neighbourhood where there are drugs, weapons and robberies.”

Diego Maradona has often been an outspoken political figure in Argentina, yet Tevez has never gone down that road when discussing the inner workings of the nation he represented at two World Cups.

“We waste a lot of time and do nothing for the kids who are starving,” he said.

“As an idol I can’t hang political flags, I’m not on any side.

“If someone calls me to give a hand then that’s what I have to do.

“I can’t say that the country is bad, but if it was then let’s do something about it.”

He also touched on the Copa Libertadores and stated that he is passionate about winning it for Boca, whether or not they meet River Plate in the final.
