Third man charged over robbery at home of Olympic cyclist

A 26-year-old man has been charged over a robbery at the home of Olympic cyclist Mark Cavendish.

Jo Jobson, 26, of no fixed address, is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday accused of two counts of robbery on November 27 2021.

Cavendish and his wife Peta were asleep at their home in Ongar, Essex, when intruders broke in and stole items including two high-value watches and a Louis Vuitton suitcase at knifepoint.

Jobson is also accused of two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm in relation to a separate incident in July last year.

Two men have already been jailed for the Cavendish robbery, Ali Sesay, 28 of Windsor Road, Croydon and Romario Henry, 31, of Bell Green, London SE26.

Mark Cavendish said his family were ‘extremely distressed’ after the break-in at his home

Essex Police also want to speak to a fourth suspect, George Goddard, who is from Loughton but has connections across east London.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Atkin, who led the investigation, said: ‘These charges are a significant milestone in this case and further shows our commitment to securing justice for burglary and robbery victims across Essex.

‘The team’s work will now begin in earnest, again, and we will seek, through colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service, to present the strongest possible case in court.

‘At this stage, George Goddard remains outstanding, and we are continuing our efforts to locate him and I would reiterate my message to him; you cannot stay hidden forever; those who may be helping you cannot help you forever. It is in your best interests to come forward.’
