Tottenham 2-1 PSV: Spurs Escape Champions League Exit

Tottenham’s hopes of reaching the last 16 are back in their hand while PSV’s Champions League elimination is confirmed.

Spurs had to do it the hard way, coming from a goal behind to score two late on to seal all three points.

But it was no less than they deserved, having dominated the match from the moment they fell behind after less than two minutes.

Luuk De Jong rose highest to head home from a corner after PSV had gone straight on the attack from kick off.

The visitors then stuck 11 men behind the ball and aimed to protect their lead.

They did a fairly good job for 78 minutes – with keeper Jeroen Zoet largely to thank for keeping the sheet clean.

Zoet made several good saves from Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane as Spurs laid siege on the PSV goal.

But they couldn’t hold out forever, as captain Harry Kane fired Spurs level with 12 minutes remaining after nice play from Fernando Llorente.

After that it seemed there would be only one winner, and Spurs finally found the winner they were searching for.

Kane again had a big hand in the leveller, heading goalwards from a Ben Davies cross which then ricocheted off two PSV defenders before finding the net.

Spurs played out the last few minutes to seal the win, as fellow group members Barcelona and Inter played out a 1-1 draw in Milan to still keep Mauricio Pochettino’s men in contention to reach the last 16.
