Transfer window: Egypt minister makes Mohamed Salah contract revelation after Liverpool meeting

Egypt sports minister, Ashraf Sobhi, advised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah to find a new club, but revealed the 29-year-old is set on staying

Mohamed Salah is planning on signing a new contract to keep him at Liverpool according to the Egyptian sports minister Ashraf Sobhi. The Reds and Salah have been locked in contract negotiations for a number of months now.

Sobhi revealed he met with Liverpool’s number 11 at the airport in Senegal after Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup and advised Salah to leave Anfield and continue his playing days elsewhere.

Salah’s agent is still in talks with the Liverpool hierarchy, but Jurgen Klopp claimed on his pre-match press conference on Monday that he is ‘happy’ with the talks that are taking place at the moment.

The good news for Liverpool fans is that Salah, according to Sobhi, intends to stay at Anfield.

“I met with Mohamed Salah at the airport after the end of the Senegal match and the failure to reach the World Cup finals and said to him to forget what happened and focus on what’s next,” Sobhi told Egyptian radio on Monday.

“I have advised him to continue his journey at a club other than Liverpool, but his direction now is to renew his contract with Liverpool.

“There are campaigns against Salah directed by some to bring him down, but I asked him not to pay attention to them.”

Jurgen Klopp said of the situation: “I am happy with it because there’s nothing new to say, that’s good. Just good. The decisive parties are talking to each other and that’s all I need. That’s it.”
