Transfer window: Van de Beek has ‘huge chance’ to quit Man Utd in January

Donny Van De Beek has a ‘huge chance’ of leaving Manchester United in January as Everton and Newcastle hover.

The £39million Holland midfielder has never been close to a regular role at Old Trafford since departing his kingpin status at Ajax in August last year.

And in contrast transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims VDB has never been closer to moving out.

Romano ruled out links between the 24-year-old and his former club Ajax.

And he also dismissed ‘rumours’ of Van de Beek earning a fresh start with United in January as ‘fake’.

Instead he reckons there is a ‘huge chance’ the 19-cap playmaker will be sold or loaned out in the next transfer window.

Newly-rich Newcastle have been strongly tipped to bid for VDB and Juventus playmaker Adrien Rabiot.

Finding a successor to sacked boss Steve Bruce is the priority for the Toon’s new chiefs following the club’s £305milion takeover.

But major investment in their playing squad seems certain in January, especially as Newcastle sit second bottom.

Meanwhile, Everton director of football Marcel Brands revealed the Toffees almost landed VDB on loan over the summer.

Brands told Dutch broadcaster NOS’s Along the Line sports programme: “We had him on our list.

“At the beginning of the transfer window, we inquired at United, then it was impossible.

“At the end of the window, I received a call from Guido Albers, his agent, that he might be loaned out after all. But at the last minute it was cancelled – stopped again.

“It is of course a pity for Donny [that he is not playing regularly].

“He is a very good player, no doubt about it. Such a boy wants to play and wants to return to the Dutch national team.”
