Troubled Rodgers confident of signing a midfielder before deadline
Brendan Rodgers is confident Leicester City will sign a new midfield player before the transfer deadline as he seeks to bolster his squad’s depth.
The city have just over 24 hours to get a deal across the line and sign the attacking midfielder they want to fill the gap left by the injury to Dennis Praet, who is out until April.
After the 3-1 defeat to Leeds ended City’s unbeaten run and left them ruing a chance to strengthen their hold on a top-four spot, Rodgers expressed optimism that his transfer wish would be met.
Asked if he had the confidence of welcoming a new face to the club before Monday night, Rodgers replied: “Yes. It’ll be good for the team, we have a gap there so the club will work hard at looking to get someone in. Our idea is to get a midfield player. If we can do that, then great.”

City are set to challenge West Brom for Arsenal’s in-demand star Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
According to The Mirror, the Foxes are setting up a late move for the 23-year-old whose short and medium-term future seems to lie away from the Emirates.
They say the England international is desperate for Arsenal to let him go before Monday’s transfer deadline so he stands a chance of playing in Euro 2021.
