Tyson Fury Vs Deontay Wilder III in search for new venue, date

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are still expecting to have their trilogy fight this year, though the pair won’t meet in America or the UK.

In February Fury beat Wilder in the pair’s second fight and, despite the beating he took, Wilder triggered the rematch clause in his contract, confirming a trilogy.

Initially the pair were meant to meet in Las Vegas in the summer before that was pushed back to October, even before the Covid-19 pandemic, and now it looks like it’ll be pushed back further but won’t take place in Vegas.

“We have proposals from entities in two countries that we’re considering now,” Fury’s promoter Bob Arum told Boxing Scene.

“And when they become more concrete, which will probably be in the next week or two weeks, we’ll run them by the PBC people because, after all, they’re our partners in that promotion. And hopefully then we’ll make an announcement.

“Right now, we’re looking to do that fight in the fourth quarter of the year and we’re probably gonna be doing it outside of the United States and outside of the United Kingdom.”

Anthony Joshua’s most recent fight, his win against Andy Ruiz Jr in December 2019, was in Saudi Arabia and talk of Fury fighting in the Middle East had already been raised in February.

Arum had talks over the week of the second Wilder fight with those responsible for helping to take the Joshua fight over to Saudi Arabia.

The Top Rank boss doesn’t want the fight to be done behind closed doors due to the loss of huge money on the gate.

“You can’t do that event without making up for the $17million in gate revenue that you would otherwise lose,” Arum added, “You can’t do it.”

The 88-year-old promoter did tell Boxing Scene he’d be willing to put on other fights behind closed doors, including the exciting lightweight unification title fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, but Fury vs Wilder III is obviously too big for no fans.

Fury knocked Wilder down twice before eventually stopping him in the seventh round.

Boxing will be going behind closed doors at some point soon, following in the footsteps of UFC, and Eddie Hearn is the first promoter to reveal a plan.

The Matchroom chief is hoping to put on shows in July and August in the ‘garden’ of the Brentwood headquarters of the company’s operations.

Hearn is hoping to put on four shows of five fights and end the run with Dillian Whyte vs. Alexander Povetkin, which will be for the WBC interim heavyweight title, with the WBC belt held currently by Fury.
