UCL: Man City striker Haaland almost joined Copenhagen ‘

Manchester City ace Erling Haaland could have been playing for Champions League opponents FC Copenhagen tonight.

Haaland spoke with FCK and Brondby in 2017 when he was considering his options ahead of joining Molde.

Father Alf-Inge recalled to Bold: “Both Brøndby and FCK were interested. It was a bit of a coincidence that we visited Brøndby, but it was the first club that contacted us.

“I think that both Brøndby and FCK would have been fine clubs for Erling. You also have to remember that Copenhagen is closer to Stavanger than Molde is.

“But it was Molde, which was largely due to Ole Gunnar Solskjær and the fact that the club uses many young players.

“We chose to have some training sessions with FCK, but it didn’t turn out to be any more. We had a talk with Ståle (Solbakken, coach at the time), but it never became concrete in relation to a contract.

“Ståle was the coach for the first team, but as I understood it, it was not relevant for Erling to become part of the first team squad. There were forces in the club who wanted him, but there were others who assessed it differently.

“FCK was and is a fine club, and we wish them all the best of luck, but Molde presented a better proposal, and we chose to go ahead with them – among other things because he became part of their first team squad.”
