Umar Sadiq beats Kearon Thomas in 2 rounds

Nigerian super-middleweight Umar Sadiq recorded a second round stoppage win over late replacement Kearon Thomas at York Hall, London on Saturday.

Sadiq was expected to fight Luke Blackledge but the former British Title Challenger and Commonwealth Champion pulled out of the fight due to food poisoning.

Promoter Frank Warren called up Thomas as a replacement two days to the fight .

A grateful ‘Top boxer’ Sadiq said after the fight: “I went to bed 2 days ago not knowing if I was going to box”
“I am grateful for this win and for all the support I have had.”

The 31 year old  accountant hopes to keep on boxing and eyes a British title in the future.

He added: “My aim is to stay active and challenge for the British Super-Middleweight title.”

Sadiq has a 7-1 record since turning professional in 2017 with three knockout victories.

The London Metropolitan University graduate has four wins in a row since his 2018 loss to Zak Chelli .

He was with the Nigerian team at the 2016 Olympic qualifiers in Cameroon and Azerbaijan.
