UNILAG wins gold in 4×400, 4×100 Men’s finals

University of Lagos (UNILAG) Men’s 4×100-meter relay team took home the gold medal on Thursday in a dominant showing in the ongoing NUGA-UNILAG 2022 at the main bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

The UNILAG team won the race in 40.55 seconds ahead of Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) who came second in 40:78 seconds while the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) came third in 40:79 seconds.

Their victory came after UNILAG swept the podium in the Men’s 4×400-meter final with 3:12.96. UNIPORT took silver with 3:13.91 and Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) emerged third with 3:17.07.

In the Women’s 4×400-meter final, UNIPORT stunned the field and claimed Gold in 3:53.06 ahead of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) who won silver in 3:58:59. The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) took home bronze in 4:03.09.

In the Women’s 4×100-meter final, FUNAAB emerged winners with 48:31seconds followed by UNIUYO in 48:66 seconds. UNIPORT came third in 49:06 seconds.

In the Women’s 200-meter final, Asemota Marvellous of Benson Idahosa University, BIU won gold medal in 25.05, Goerge Magdale of Cross River University of Technology won silver in 25.38. Arasiola Victoria of FUNAAB won Bronze in 25.51.

In the triple Jump Men’s final, Kalu Ikenga of UNIPORT came first with 15.80m, Usman Jefrey of Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) came second with 15.03m while Adeyemi Onikepo of Obafemi Awolowo University emerged third 14.52m.

However, Mercy Honesty who ran last lap for UNIPORT on 4x100m women’s relay race in track and field has won three medals in NUGA 2022. She won gold in the women’s category of Long Jump, Triple jump and won bronze in 4x100m women in track and field.

In 2011, she represented UNIPORT in West Africa University Games when she was doing her pre-degree, she’s currently undergoing her masters in UNIPORT.

Also, Kingsley from University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has won three gold medals in men’s track and field. He won gold in 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m in NUGA2022. He also won the Enugu marathon race last year.

Similarly, Onyia Kingsley from the University of Nigeria (UNN) emerged the winner 10000M race in a time of 35M: 08:3s to take the gold medal.

Temple Prince of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AEFUNAI) finished 2nd in a time of 36M:16:4s and was closely followed by John Benjamin of the Nigerian Army University who bagged the bronze medal in a time of 36:16:6.

UNILAG’s Olatunji Moboluwaduro after most of the pack had pulled out decided to go all the way to the finish line coming 4th.
