Update: Buhari Suspends Falcons reception Indefinitely

Super Falcons hope of meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Villa has been dashed.

Source in the know confirmed on Sunday afternoon that the President will no longer receive the Africa Champions on Monday as earlier scheduled.

As at press time a new date has not been communicated and it appeared it will be farther than expected if at all the reception will hold.

“I can tell you that it has been postponed indefinitely. There are other national engagements slated for tomorrow and the President will be too preoccupied,” the source said.

He added that, “When the new date is fixed will let you know”.

Since last Saturday that the Super Falcons won the trophy for a record nine times after defeating South Africa in penalties at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Accra, Ghana, the team has not been hosted.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had revealed that some state governments and sponsored private bodies are ready but would want the President to be the first to host the team.

Sportinglife.ng had on Sunday morning reported that the reception with the president will hold on Monday at the Villa.

“The girls will meet with the President who just came back from Poland on Monday and l must tell you that he is willing to receive the girls,” a source close to the presidency who would preferred to be anonymous was quoted in the report.
