US coach Popovich hails Nigeria’s D’Tigers after pre-Olympic win

American basketball coach Gregg Popovich said the D’Tigers deserve huge credit after beating his team in Sunday’s  pre-Olympic friendly.

The African champions ran over the Olympic champions in an exhibition game played at Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday morning.

It was the first victory for Nigeria against the Americans after suffering back-to-back defeat in 2012 and 2016.

Speaking after the game, Gregg Popovich said his side failed to cope with the physicality of the Africans and he applauded their performance.

“I thought that the Nigerian team played very physically, did a great job in that regard, and knocked down a lot of 3s,” Give them credit,” U.S. coach Gregg Popovich said.

Kevin Durant, who had never before played in a loss for USA Basketball in 39 senior international games, had 17 points. Jayson Tatum added 15, Damian Lillard had 14, and Bam Adebayo 11.
