Utaka urges Super Eagles to stay determined in World Cup qualification battle

Former Nigerian international John Utaka has called on the Super Eagles to maintain their determination and focus as they push to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria sit fourth in Group C with seven points, trailing South Africa — who lead with 13 points — and both Rwanda and Benin, who have eight points each.

Speaking in an interview with Brila FM, Utaka stressed the importance of unity, belief, and commitment from the players as they navigate the remaining qualifiers.

“With the kind of talent we have, we shouldn’t be in this position. We need to come together and stay focused on achieving our World Cup dream. We must be determined like other countries,” the former forward stated.

Utaka remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances, urging the team not to lose hope.

“In football, anything can happen. We shouldn’t give up. I still believe we can qualify, but it all depends on how we approach the games ahead,” he added.

The Super Eagles will look to reignite their qualification hopes when the campaign resumes later this year.
