van Nistelrooy ready to take up PSV Eindhovenn job

Ruud van Nistelrooy has reportedly agreed to become PSV Eindhoven’s next manager after successful talks with upcoming general manager Marcel Brands.

Van Nistelrooy, 45, is currently in charge of Jong PSV, the club’s reserve squad, having coached their Under-18 team until last summer.

Though he has previously worked as an assistant for the Netherlands national team, the Manchester United legend has yet to take on a senior leadership role, despite hanging up his shoes nearly 10 years ago.

But according to The TelegraphVan Nistelrooy is ready to take over the reins at PSV after having talks about the position of their manager this week.

With current boss Roger Schmidt leaving at the end of the season, the Dutch club is on the hunt for his successor and have identified their ex-striker as the ideal candidate.

Brands, who will take on the role of general manager at Philips Stadium after leaving Everton last year, has made a breakthrough in talks with Van Nistelrooy and convinced him to take the job.

PSV is currently second in the Eredivisie, only two points behind leader Ajax.

Van Nistelrooy could become the national champion next season, with Schmidt in it with a chance to say goodbye to the club at a high level.

Schmidt, who has played for PSV for the past two years, announced he will be leaving in the summer after failing to agree a new contract.

However, Van Nistelrooy initially ruled himself out to replace him earlier this month.

‘I can be clear about that now. I will not go on to the PSV first team,” Van Nistelrooy told ESPN

“I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. I think we should continue to follow the trajectory that we have agreed upon. The ambition and the drive are there, but it’s too early now.’
