VAR Denies Leeds United Goal Against West Ham

Leeds United saw two goals ruled out in quick succession against West Ham due to VAR intervention.

The first was an agonising offside call that went against Helder Costa and saw Tyler Roberts’ goal chalked off early on at the London Stadium.

Costa’s knee-cap was deemed to have been slightly ahead of Vladimir Coufal’s foot in the move and after the linesman brought his flag up, VAR did the mandatory check, got the lines out and elected to disallow the goal.

It was another incredibly tight call and fans were venting on Twitter:

Almost immediately after, Patrick Bamford had the ball in the net but Raphinha was adjudged to have ran the ball out of play in the build-up.

West Ham went 1-0 up after Jesse Lingard won a penalty that was saved by Illan Meslier – but only pushed back into the on-loan Manchester United man’s path to score on the rebound.

Craig Dawson added a second with a header from an Aaron Cresswell corner, continuing Leeds’ wretched record from set-pieces.
