Victorious Golden Eaglets shift attention to AFCON, World Cup

After conquering the sub-regional WAFU, the Golden Eaglets have now shifted their attention to the U17 AFCON in Algeria and qualification to the 2023 World Cup in Peru.

The Eagles beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the Final of the U17 WAFU B, which served as qualifiers for the u17 AFCON in March.

Coach Nduka Ugbade praised his team and said the next target will be to shine in Algeria next year on their way to the World Cup in October 2023.

“I’m so happy for these boys, They really deserved this. We all work so hard to qualify for the U-17 AFCON and win this competition, “Ugbade said after the hard-fought Final.

“We didn’t spend a long time in camp to prepare for this competition, but everyone was committed to us achieving our objective.

“We will go home and rest and then focus on the AFCON. We will do our best to qualify for the World Cup too.”

Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Richard Odoh was named Man of the Match after making a number of top-class saves to deny Burkina Faso.
