On the other hand, the 34-year-old American Megan Rapinoe was recognized for the prestigious award because of her clean sweep at the Women’s World Cup.
Interestingly, Dijk saw off the likes of Lionel Messi and club mate Mohamed Salah in the race to win the award for the first time.
This award summarizes a remarkable year for Virgil Van Dijk who played a good role in helping Liverpool to win the Champions League title beating Tottenham in the final.
