Virgil van Dijk signs new Liverpool contract until 2027
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2027.
Van Dijk, whose previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season, extended his stay with the Reds by an additional two years.
The announcement follows closely on the heels of Mohamed Salah’s contract extension, which was confirmed just six days earlier.
The 33-year-old Dutch defender arrived at Liverpool in January 2018 from Southampton, for a then-world-record fee for a defender of £75 million.
Since joining, Van Dijk has become one of the pillars of the club’s success, helping Liverpool secure a Premier League title, a Champions League crown, an FA Cup, two League Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup — along with numerous personal awards.
Now, he stands on the brink of leading Liverpool to another Premier League triumph, with Arne Slot’s side currently 13 points clear at the top and only six matches remaining.
Should Liverpool succeed, it will mark the club’s second Premier League title and its record-equalling 20th English league championship.

Despite recent transfer speculation linking him with Paris Saint-Germain, Van Dijk made it clear that Liverpool was always his first choice.
“It was always Liverpool,” Van Dijk said in an interview with the club’s website. “There wasn’t any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I’m one of Liverpool. Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser — I’m really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling.”
Reflecting on the new contract, Van Dijk added: “I’m very happy, very proud. There are so many emotions going through my head right now. The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy.”
