W/Cup qualifiers: You must not underrate Liberia, Lagos fans charge Super Eagles

Lagos football followers have urged Super Eagles to go all out against Liberia in the FIFA World Cup qualifier billed for Friday at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

Five thousand fans will be at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Friday evening to cheer the Eagles if they are playing well or to jeer them if they are not.

“We love the Eagles, but we want them to win on Friday because here we love beautiful football,” demanded one of the fans, Gbenga Abiodun.

“They are playing well at their clubs in Europe and they should come down here and do the same.”

“If they are not playing fine, we will boo them and cheer the opponents,” warned another fan, Felix Okoro.

Another fan, Mary Ekanem, said she was at the stadium when the Eagles dumped Lesotho 3-0 to round up their 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign in March.

“They played and won well against Lesotho,” she praised.

“We want them to do more against Liberia.”

Lagos is now the commercial capital city of Nigeria as well as its showbiz hub after the country’s political seat was moved to Abuja.

Football is the No 1 sport of the city and fans were “spoilt” by the expansive football played by darling club Stationery Stores, ‘The Flaming Flamingoes’, in the 60s and which was copied by Jogo Bonito (beautiful football)Julius Berger in the 80s and 90s.
