Watford’s Ismaila Sarr to be sidelined for a month

Watford’s star man Ismaila Sarr has been ruled out for at least a month with a knee ligament injury, news that will come as a huge blow to the club.

The Hornets are currently 16th in the Premier League and have only just fought their way out of the relegation zone, in part thanks to Sarr’s goals.

The club have now revealed that the Senegalese forward is out for at least a month, ruling him out for most of the busy festive period in the top flight.

He picked up the injury in the 4-1 victory over Manchester United, in which he scored and missed a penalty against the side linked with his signature last summer.

Sarr was forced off 68 minutes into the match at Vicarage Road, and missed the 4-2 defeat by Leicester at the weekend.

In what will come as a huge concern to new boss Claudio Ranieri, Sarr is now set to miss at least seven Premier League fixtures, including games against Chelsea and Manchester City.

Watford also face huge bottom-half clashes against Brentford and Burnley, as well as games against West Ham, Crystal Palace and Wolves before the turn of the year.

Sarr is not the only Hornets player occupying a spot in the treatment room, with Nicolas Nkoulou also out into 2022 after injuring himself against United.

The centre back only joined the club at the start of October and had proved to be a successful addition to the Hornets’ leaky back-line, playing in victories over Everton and United, and a narrow defeat at Arsenal, before his hamstring injury.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster had also been nursing a groin strain in recent matches, and Watford revealed on Tuesday that he too will be out until January following a scan.

The 38-year-old had played in eight Premier League games this season, but will now be replaced by Daniel Bachmann for the busy Christmas period.
