We are playing for pride – Edwin Okon

Head Coach of Rivers Angels FC, Edwin Okon has said  Thursday’s WAFU B zonal final between his side and Hasaacas Ladies FC of Ghana is all for pride as they hope to maintain their one hundred percent record at the Championship.

Thursday’s encounter will produce an overall winner from the WAFU B zone, a title Okon isn’t going to let slip off his hands.

“Firstly, I want to thank God for bringing us this far in this competition,” he began.

“Yes we’ve gotten the qualification we all wanted to and happy with how we achieved this feat.

“What we’re playing for right now is for pride and the players and coaching crew are all aware of this.

“We don’t intend to be complacent in tomorrow’s game because we know Nigerians want us to win this so we’re poised on flying the country’s flag very high,” Okon added.

Both teams met in the opening game of the group stage and Rivers Angels were 2-0 better than the Ghanaian side.

Okon is however not going to underrate this side as he believes this second meeting would be totally different from the previous.

“It’s going to be a different ball game because finals are always intense and we are very aware of this and also prepared for it”, he continued.

“Hasaacas making it to the finals means they’re a good side and besides, no team is a pushover in this tournament.

“We are quite ready to face tomorrow’s game and promise to make Nigerians really proud,” summed Okon.

Thursday’s game will kickoff at 7pm Nigerian time.
