We went to Gombe United to win, Says Baba Ganaru

El Kanemi Warriors Technical Adviser Mohammed Baba Ganaru has revealed that his side went into Sunday’s matchday 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game against Gombe United with a game plan to pick maximum three points.

The league veteran, Olawale Isiaka’s late minute goal gave the Borno Army all important away win over Savannah Scorpions and recorded their second away win of the season at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.  The Borno-based outfit picked their first away win in the 1-0 win over Akwa United in Uyo.

First half substitute Olawale curled in a beautiful attempt to beat Gombe United goalkeeper Adeyinka from Sani Abbani’s pass.

The win in Gombe on Sunday ensured that the Warriors picked four points against Gombe United in the two games this season. Interestingly, Coach Ladan Bosso had last week Sunday guided Gombe United to pick a draw in the matchday 11 encounter against El Kanemi in Maiduguri.

In a chat with SportingLife, Baba Ganaru said their tactics worked against Gombe United while praising his boys for their doggedness during the game.

“It was a good game and my boys were tactical disciplined throughout the game. I told them before the game that if Gombe United can come to Maiduguri to pick a draw, we can equally go there (Gombe) to pick a win. It was our plan that we were going to Gombe to win the match and we thanked God that our tactics worked.

“We prepared for it and we got it. We were able to score because they were under pressure to score against us towards the end of the game. In a bit to get a goal, all of them came out in search of a goal but along the way they lost concentration and they were out of their positions. We got the ball and beat them on counter-attack. What happened on Sunday is good for our aspiration and we will consolidate on it in our next game on weekend.”
