We were better than Nigeria–Modric

Man of the match in Nigeria’s 0-2 loss to Croatia Luka Modric believes the win over Nigeria will boost the team’s  confidence ahead of their second group D match against Argentina next week.

He also feels Croatia played better than Nigeria and deserved to win.

Speaking after he was voted the MOTM, Modric said the win would motivate them to qualify from the group which they lead at the moment after their victory

“It’s a great start for Croatia, we deserved to win. Nigeria played well, but we were better. I’m happy that I scored the penalty, I’m satisfied with how I scored,” he told the media.

Modric sealed victory for Croatia from the penalty spot after William Troost-Ekong manhandled Mandzukic inside the 18-yard box with 15 minutes to end the game.
