We won’t underestimate Kenya – Flying Eagles Coach Zubairu

Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has cautioned his players not to take Kenya lightly ahead of their decisive Group B encounter at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria, who sit second in the group with four points from two matches, will face the Rising Stars of Kenya at the June 30 Air Defence Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday (today).

Kenya are bottom of the group with no points, having suffered defeats to Morocco and Tunisia. But Zubairu has insisted that the East Africans remain a threat despite their struggles.

“We are not going to relax because Kenya have lost two games. In a competition like this, any team that has lost twice and has no point are always difficult to play against,” Zubairu told the team’s media officer, Sharrif Abdallah.

“We have told the players not to relax. We cannot afford to underrate or underestimate the Kenyans. They are not a bad side. We are going to approach the game with all seriousness to ensure we carry the day.”

Elsewhere in Group B, Morocco and Tunisia—both still in contention—will go head-to-head, with the final standings hinging on the outcome of both matches.

Zubairu emphasized the importance of finishing top of the group, which would allow Nigeria to remain in Cairo for the next stage.

“We will do everything possible to make sure that we win and top the group because of the advantage that will go with it. We want to remain here in Cairo,” he declared.
