We would cope without Mane against Tanzania–Cisse

Senegal forward, Sadio Mane has been suspended for his country’s opening match against Tanzania at the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on June 21 in Egypt.

cope without Mane

However, head coach Aliou Cisse believes the player’s absence would not in anyway affect his team who conclude their Pre Afcon warm up matches with a friendly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Ismailia today.

The 27-year-old  picked up two yellow cards during the Nations Cup qualifiers which effectively rules him out of the June 23 clash.

“His absence should not in any way bother us,” coach Cisse told Senegalese media just before they departed their training camp in Alicante in Spain for Egypt.
“Certainly the presence of Sadio is beneficial but without him we remain strong.

“The CAF [Confederation of African Football] has decided, so we will not linger,” Cisse added.

Mane was booked in Senegal’s 1-0 win away to Equatorial Guinea on 17 November 2018 and also appears to have been cautioned in their 2-0 victory over Madagascar on 23 March 2019, although it is not confirmed on Caf’s match statistics. Caf has been contacted for verification.

Unfortunately for Mane, this will be the second time he will be missing Senegal’s opening match.

In 2015, when Equatorial Guinea hosted the tournament, Mane did not feature in Senegal’s opening match against Ghana because he was still recovering from a calf injury he suatined while on club duties.
