West Ham flop Anderson in Italy to complete Lazio return

West Ham outcast Felipe Anderson is in Italy ahead of his return to Lazio.

The Brazilian, who joined up with the West Ham squad in Scotland for a pre-season trip last week, is one of a number of players the Hammers are looking to move on this summer in order to raise funds and free up their wage bill in order to invest in the squad.

Lazio have confirmed the move after posting a picture of Anderson in the back of a car wearing a club scarf.

West Ham signed the 28-year-old from Lazio in 2018 for a then club record £36million.

Anderson has enjoyed flashes in a claret and blue shirt but has never fulfilled the potential Manuel Pellegrini saw in him and, along with Sebastien Haller, will go down as an expensive flop.

West Ham will receive just over £4m for the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Porto, but do have a 50 per cent sell-on clause in the deal.

Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini could also leave this summer as David Moyes looks to build a squad capable of building on their sixth placed finish last season and competing in Europe.

Preparations began in Scotland last week and Moyes is hoping the momentum from last term can be carried into the new campaign.

“We worked hard in St Andrews, but we’ve also tried to enjoy ourselves too because we’re off the back of a really good season,” said Moyes.

“We want the players to remember that and we’re trying to use to carry that momentum into the new season.

“I think all the players have done really well. We brought the young players up, many of the players are away, we’ve got players who are late back because of international games, so it’s given half-a-dozen of the young lads the chance to come up and train with us.”
