West Ham sweating over injury to Nigeria-born defender

Premier League campaigners West Ham face an anxious wait to discover the severity of Angelo Ogbonna’s ankle injury after he limped off 16 minutes into Tuesday FA Cup tie at Manchester United.

The Nigerian-born Italian defender twisted his left ankle while blocking a shot from Anthony Martial in what is a major injury worry for West Ham manager David Moyes.

Ogbonna let out a huge scream as he lay stricken on the Old Trafford turf.

A stretcher was called for but Ogbonna was able to limp back to the dressing room with the help of a member of the West Ham medical team. He was replaced by Issa Diop.

Ogbonna is set to have his ankle examined and Moyes will fear the 32-year-old faces a spell on the sidelines.

Interestingly, Ogbonna has been one of West Ham’s best players this season and has been a major factor in their good form under Moyes.
