What you should know just before today’s Nigeria/Cameroon Friendly.

Keep the date and the time. At 8.30pm tonight Super Eagles will file out against Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in an international friendly in Austria.

It will not be the first time the Eagles and the Lions will be locked in battle whether friendly or competitive. As a matter of fact, today’s friendly will mark the 7th in the series of friendlies between the two neighboring countries whose football prowess speak volumes.

The first friendly took place on the 26th of April 1960 ending goalless.

Nigeria and Cameroon have met a record 23 times Nigeria won 12 times drew 7 times and lost four times.  Interestingly every time the two nations meet or plan to meet, it generates a lot of debate and interest so nothing less will be expected today.

Speaking few hours ago Babafemi Raji Media Manager of the Super Eagles confirmed that the team is good to go. “Training has been progressing well, no injury worries and even the home based have blended well though in camp we don’t emphasise that we just recognise all as members of the team” he said

The game is of course a shape up for both teams who will be engaging in World cup qualifiers from September.  In the last friendly October 11 2015 the Eagles ran away with a 3-0 win with goals coming from Efe Ambrose, Moses Simon and Odion Ighalo.

Looking at the record those good at permutations say the Eagles will again carry the day insisting that the Lions have not won a friendly against Eagles, and that they best they  can possibly achieve will be a draw like they did in 1960, 1967 and 1980.

Some will however say that football is like biscuit and can break from any point, and that each meeting is unique and present different scenario.

Perhaps it will be better to just count the minutes and seconds relax and enjoy the match come 8-30pm Nigeria time and 9.30pm in Austria
