Why I returned to Vitoria Setubal–Agu

Vitoria Setubal’s Mikel Agu has stated that he decided to stage a return back to Portugal with the same club he played for two seasons ago to enable him to integrate quickly with the transfer coming through on deadline day.

Agu played for Bursaspor of Turkey last season on loan from FC Porto and the midfielder said he thought he would have a future with his parent club but when it was obvious that he must look elsewhere for the first-team action he decided to go to a familiar place (Vitoria Setubal) where blending with his new teammates and
understanding the way of life of the people of the area won’t be a problem.

“I decided to go back to Setubal because I was there two seasons ago and I am still highly rated there,” Agu told the media.

“The transfer came through very late in the season on the transfer deadline day and despite having several offers, I opted for Vitoria Setubal because I am already known and it won’t be difficult blending with the team as some of the officials of the clubs till know me very well.”

He disclosed that he has put the pain of missing the last World Cup in Russia behind him and that he is looking forward to playing at the next Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and also secure a place at the next World Cup in Qatar.

Agu confirmed that the pain of missing the World Cup was huge that he and his family had to travel on vacation to Turkey to enable them to ease the pressure of the not participating at the Mundial after he was omitted at the last minute.

The FC Porto star is currently with the other Super Eagles players in Asaba, Delta State where they are expected to hit Johannesburg, South Africa today ahead of the Saturday Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the BafanaBafana.
