Why Sheffield Utd failed to participate in January transfer activities – Owner

Sheffield United owner, Prince Abdullah, has revealed why his side failed to participate in the January transfer window.

Fans were hoping a big signing or two could help manager Chris Wilder in the battle against relegation.

But Abdullah, who did assure Wilder of his job in the event of relegation, defended the team’s lack of transfer activity.

He told talkSPORT: “You always have to position yourself and not think with emotions.

“We had to look at our position in the table. If we brought in two or three loans and they didn’t work out, it would add to the burden that we would have to manage next year.

“You have to look at our past record in loans, especially in January. The board made that decision.

“When the team is playing well, they don’t need anyone. I don’t think one player could have saved us. We have to save ourselves from within.

“I really believe in the team and in the players that we have. The odds are against us but if we perform as we have recently, we can pull it around.

“We love the team and the players and the city and we’re going to be in it together, no matter what the league.

“If we are in the Championship I don’t think we’ll belong there, we have the chance to bounce straight back.”
