Wijnaldum gets super welcome from hundreds of Roma fans

Georginio Wijnaldum received a very warm reception from Roma fans as they greeted him in the airport, ahead of his move from PSG.

The Dutch international is expected to finalise a loan move, with an option to buy, to the Giallorossi this week and will become Jose Mourinho’s fifth recruit of the summer window.

And the Roma fans have certainly let the 31-year-old know of their excitement for his arrival, as they flocked in their hundreds to greet Wijnaldum at the airport.

In videos on social media, the Dutch international was spotted after he arrived on a private jet provided by club owners the Friedkins – before hearing his name chanted by the waiting fans.

Wijnaldum has a big grin drawn across his face as he strolls through the Ciampino airport waving, signing autographs and taking selfies, before being swept away in a car to meet club directors.

The 31-year-old is expected to sign a loan deal with the Italian side just one season after joining the Parisians for free, following his Liverpool departure.

His arrival improves an already impressive window for Roma – who have signed Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic and Zeki Celik this summer.

Wijnaldum’s PSG was facilitated by the Parisians signing of Renato Sanches from Lille on a five-year deal, which the French Ligue 1 champions confirmed on Thursday.

PSG did not disclose the fee but reports in France said they had paid Lille £12.6million (€15m) for the 24-year-old, who has represented Portugal 32 times scoring three goals.

The former Swansea midfielder insists he has made the right decision in joining the French champions, where he reunite with manager Christophe Galtier, who has hailed his ‘explosive qualities’.
