Wolves boss proposes new approach to Covid restrictions

Wolves Boss Nuno Espirito Santo says there are ‘easy solutions’ to simplify the working lives of players and coaches, with particular emphasis on the restrictions in place for team meetings.

Players and staff must follow social distancing rules in these gatherings, which Nuno feels is unnecessary as he says Wolves are tested ‘every two days’.

‘We have a small list that I will try to pass to (general manager of football operations) Matt Wild to be addressed, because I am sure all the teams are facing the same problems,’ said Nuno.

‘There are easy solutions. We are being tested every two days, we need to be together, we need to have meetings. So if I can’t be comfortable with the people I work with on a daily basis, it is hard to prepare.

‘I don’t want to make a case of protesting – that is not my point. For example, everyone needs meetings, but when you speak to your players you don’t want them to be two metres apart from each other.

‘How can you transmit the feeling of being together, being a unit, if we are in a room of 50-100 square metres, far away from each other?’

‘Then there is the matter of eating together and all these things. I know we must transmit an example to society, like with goal celebrations, but I think there are solutions for it and I will try to pass these solutions to the proper people.’

Restrictions were tightened after a season-high 40 positive Covid tests were returned in the top flight on January 5. There were only two new positive cases in the most recent round.
