Work permit could stop my Liverpool return–Awoniyi

 

Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed that he may not return to Liverpool if he is unable to get his UK work permit.

The laws states that for an EU-player to be given a work permit he must have played over 75% of his country’s  top grade matches over the previous two years.

At the moment, the 21-year-old who was part of the U-23 National Team that defeated Libya 4-0 last Monday to qualify for the final round of the 2020 Olympic qualifer.

“It saddens my heart that it’s been difficult to get a work permit for the past four years,” he told BBC Sport.

“At the end of the season we have to go back to Liverpool to discuss.

“Everyone knows the importance of the work permit and how it works, and that you’d need to play for your national team.

“If you don’t get a chance with your national team then it becomes difficult to get it.

“Personally, I chose Liverpool because I would love to play in the English Premier League for Liverpool.

“If God says it will happen then it will, but if not then I can only go on with my life and career,” he told BBC Sport.

Awoniyi who now plays for Belgian side, Royal Mouscron on loan joined Liverpool in 2015.
