World Cup: ‘Super Falcons Duty Bound to Reach Semi-Final’

Retired Nigerian female football goalkeeper, and Super Falcons captain has no doubt that the present crop of squad Nigeria will parade in France for the FIFA Women’s World Cup will spring surprises by surpassing past outings.

In the view of the retired but not tired footballer who spoke with Sportinglife.ng on the side during the media campaign to herald support for the World Cup bound Falcons in Lagos, said, she is optimistic that the team Nigeria will get to the medal zone of the FIFA mundial for the first time.

She said. “With the level of preparations they must get to the Semi-finals. This is because of the loads of motivations, and supports and level of preparations since last year… I believe it will be an achievable hurdle for them.”

However, the football glasshouse will not place a target for the three times African Champions according to the President of Nigeria Women’s Football League, Aisha Falode who also spoke with sportinglife.ng on the occasion.

She said, “There is no set target for a team that is going to compete on a global stage, what you can tell them is to give their best, is to play from the heart, is to be daring and they have all the support of all the over 180 million and above Nigerians and this brand is also supporting them.”

Tagged “We’ve Got Balls” and sponsored by Amstel Malta, the campaign held over the weekend was a beehive of ex-Super Falcons stars at Eko hotel as they turned-up to share their warmth support for the national team who are currently on a two-week camp at the Avita Resort facility in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Austria ahead of their departure to France for the mundial which starts on June 7.

First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi, President of Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Falode, led the ex-Super Falcons stars out for the media campaign, which also had in attendance some female Nollywood crème de la crèmes; in course to garner support and love for the female footballers.

The likes of Linda Tiwa Savage, Dakore Egbuso– Akande, Tonto Dikeh,  Ihuoma Linda Ejiofor–Suleiman and Cynthia Nwadiora (Cee C), teamed up with Super Falcon players; Asisat Oshoala, Onome Ebi, Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and Tochukwu Oluehi  in a media video clip Campaign for the World Cup bound Falcons, sponsored by Amstel Malta.
Nigeria moved beyond the first round only once in seven previous World Cup finals appearances. The Coach Thomas Dennerby led Falcons will take on Norway, Korea Republic and host nation France in the group phase of the championship.
