World player of the year Marta set to marry teammate Tony Deion

 

Orlando Pride and Brazil international Marta Vieira da Silva has announced her engagement to teammate Toni Deion Pressley after the pair fell in love at the club.

The 34-year-old, a six-time World Player of the Year winner regarded by many as the greatest female footballer of all time, posted the news to her 2.3 million Instagram followers alongside several pictures of the happy couple.

She wrote: “This is another chapter of the story that we are writing together.”

The pair are believed to have met at Florida-based Orlando Pride in 2017 and according to NewsChain, the pair made their relationship public two years later.

Reports suggest a date for the wedding has not been confirmed yet, but the big day is not expected until after the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League campaign.

Toni Deion Pressley has also posted several pictures alongside Marta with the caption: “Yes.”

Both posts on Instagram have received a huge amount of positive messages from fans and fellow professionals, including Chicago Red Stars players Rachel Hill and Kealia Watt, who wrote: “Love this and love you guys.” and “Congratulations Toni!!! So happy for you.”

Marta Vieira, who holds the record for the most goals scored at FIFA World Cup tournaments (17), is the first player ever to score at five different WC tournaments, while Toni Deion Pressley has spent four years at Orlando Pride after joining from Houston Dash in 2015.

The duo are said to be eager to start their new campaign with Orlando, with the regular NWSL 2021 season beginning in mid-May.
