Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa, has hailed his former CSKA teammate Sergey Ignashevich for his exemplary qualities.

Musa who paid tribute to the Russia defender who announced his retirement from international football early in the week described Ignashevich as a perfect model for the younger generation.

“Sergei, What a fantastic leader you are. You have had a wonderful career and one a footballer could dream of having. You were a great teammate to me at CSKA and I enjoyed our moments together. Enjoy the next stage of your life my friend,” the player posted on his Instagram.

The 38-year-old, who is Russia’s most capped player with 127 appearances decided to call it quits with the national team after losing to Croatia in the quarter final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup last Saturday. He featured in all of Russia’s matches leading up to the knockout stage.

One of the high-points of his career was when he helped Russia reach the semi-finals at Euro 2008.
