You must learn “difficult” lesson after Man Utd return, Silvestre tells Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told that he must learn a “difficult” lesson on his return to Manchester United by former team-mate Mikael Silvestre.

The Portuguese superstar marked his comeback to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day after sealing a move from Juventus.

It has been 12 years since Ronaldo last played for United, in which time he went on to become one of the best players to ever grace the pitch while at Real Madrid.

However, he is now 36 years old, and while he doesn’t seem to be showing too many signs of slowing down, Silvestre has urged him not to overwork his body and to make sure he gets enough rest.

“On the pitch he’s a monster of work, of natural talent and now he has become a leader wherever he’s been after leaving United. He’s a perfect teammate,” Silvestre said told Bettingexpert.com.

“The difficulty is for Cristiano to accept that he will have to get some rest, he’s still playing for Portugal. Yes, he wants play all the time but he needs to know when to take his foot off the gas which is difficult.

“I’ve been there myself and you still think you can train as hard as a 20-year-old and you can’t and the reality is you have to rest so you can peak during the game, so that’s going to be the challenge for him but I think he can do that.”

Meanwhile, Silvestre has addressed whether he thinks there are any gaping holes in the current United squad.

And despite Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s lack of quality back-up at the club, the former defender reckons they have done all the right business in the summer transfer window to get the side in the best shape possible.

“I don’t think they need to strengthen or add to the current squad, they’ve done what they pretty much wanted to do,” he told NetBet.

“They wanted a new striker and by extending Edinson Cavani’s contract that was done. They wanted a right winger and they secured Jadon Sancho, although it was after a year of waiting. Finally, the last piece of the jigsaw was Raphael Varane, so I think the squad is ready to go this season
