Zidane: Players must step up in Ramos absence

Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane, is looking for his players to step up against Inter Milan with captain Sergio Ramos absent.

Ramos will miss the game in Italy, but Zidane believes that his absence shouldn’t be an excuse for his team who have struggled whenever they have been called to play without their captain in the Champions League.

“We know how important a player he is, but statistics are there to be broken,” said Zidane.

“He can’t be here, but we are going to try to change those results without him.

“We know that [the game against Inter] is a final. We know that we are going to suffer and we want to grab the three points.”

With both Karim Benzema and Luka Jovic sidelined, Mariano opened the scoring against Villarreal and made the most out of the opportunity he was given by Zidane, who praised his striker’s attitude at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

“The other day he showed what he can contribute,” Zidane noted. “He went out and gave everything on the field. We are happy with him. Nothing more.”
