2020 Ballon d’Or: Ronaldo leads Messi in early race for prestigious award

Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is presently leading Barcelona rival Lionel Messi in the race for the 2020 prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

Currently, Messi is the holder of the Ballon d’or after claiming it for a record sixth time in his career last year December, seeing off Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk and Ronaldo.

And with nine months to go for the next Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, the race is currently high among the big players in Europe with Lionel Messi falling into fifth position on the standings according to a rating published by GOAL.

Topping the chart is Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who has excelled for the Citizens this campaign.

However, City are unlikely to defend the Premier League title this season, with Liverpool leading the race for the Premier League silverware.
A further breakdown of the chart revealed that Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, who has netted nine times in eight games this year before cropping an injury that will rule him out until April.

The Polish forward is closely followed by Ronaldo, who has netted 13 goals for Juventus in 10 Serie A games and he is working towards claiming his sixth Ballon d’Or award this year.
