£60m Anfield Road development proves FSG commitment – Klopp

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has said the £60m development of Anfield is proof of owners FSG’s commitment to the club.

Work officially began on the 7,000-seat expansion on Thursday when the Reds boss put the first spade in the ground at a special ceremony at Anfield.

The event was also attended by legendary figures Sir Kenny Dalglish, Phil Neal, Ian Rush and John Aldridge, while CEO Billy Hogan and managing director Andy Hughes were also present.

The project will take the club past the £200m mark on investment in infrastructure during FSG’s near 11-year reign as owners, following on from the opening of the Main Stand (£110m) and the AXA Training Centre (£50m) in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

“It will be massive,” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo. “Everything’s better with fans.

“We can see that now with the supporters [back inside Anfield] again, everything is much better, much more emotional, much more driven.

“Having 53,000 there is not bad already to be honest, it felt like 100,000 so I can’t imagine how 60,000 will feel.

“But now it will be over 60,000 and I absolutely love the idea.

“Since I’ve been here and not because I am here, but since I am here, a lot of things have happened and with all the great history of this club.

“Everybody is really about building the future of this club.

“We have the training ground and the Main Stand and now this new [Anfield Road] stand, it is absolutely incredible. It is very important.

“I know that there are some moments where there is some criticism when we don’t invest, but this club has always invested, just slightly differently.

“I like this idea about that and I just hope that about the building process. I just hope that the building process will be quicker than the previous speech!

“Because then I will have a few games in this stadium, that will be really great.”
